As a not-for-profit event, we believe in being transparent with our community. With the 2025 Toronto Indie Author Con now behind us, we’re releasing our Profit & Loss statement to show exactly how the event came together financially.

From venue costs to speaker honorariums, every line item reflects our commitment to building a valuable and sustainable event for indie authors. Whether you attended, volunteered, sponsored, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, we want you to see how your support made this conference possible.

This year, we sold 127 tickets. Thanks to generous support from Kobo Writing Life and Vellum, the Accessibility Fund covered another 10 attendees at no cost, ensuring more indie authors could participate regardless of financial barriers. In total, we welcomed 137 registered attendees.

Sponsorships brought in $4,050.00, with contributions helping cover major elements like the Accessibility Fund and our conference lanyards, the latter proudly sponsored by The QuitCast for Writers with Becca Syme. We also received $2,300.00 in grants from Access Copyright Foundation, whose support made a huge difference in covering our venue costs.

In addition to attendees, we were supported by a dedicated 6-person volunteer committee, 8 day-of volunteers, 10 incredible speakers, and 3 vendors. Altogether, more than 160 people were involved on-site throughout the weekend.

As for the financials: while we ended the conference with a modest shortfall of -$83.51, that number reflects a deliberate decision to pay $5,000 to our conference planners, who had originally volunteered hundreds of hours with no expectation of compensation. We felt it was important to begin compensating this foundational work as we grow.

Looking ahead, the 2026 event will be run under our new non-profit organization, Indie Authors Canada. This shift will allow us to pursue more grant opportunities and keep ticket prices accessible for everyone. Mark your calendars: TIAC 2026 is happening April 18–19, and tickets will go on sale this fall!
